Yamagata University Hospital has pursued reliable medical care with rich humanity by setting the following four action goals. 1) Remove the barriers between clinical departments and provide appropriate medical care for the hospital as a whole. 2) Strive to disclose information and aim to be a hospital open to society. 3) Strive to develop and introduce advanced medical care suitable for individual patients. 4) Foster creative medical personnel with strict ethical standards.

A major feature of our medical care system is the promotion of cross-organ team medical care. The wards of the university hospital are centered for each organ. For example, cardiovascular disease is treated at the "Cardiovascular Center" in cooperation with the Department of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery. With this system, advanced knowledge and skills can be provided to patients intensively. In addition, the Cancer Treatment Board (Cancer Treatment Conference), which was launched ahead of the rest of the country, brings together radiation therapy specialists, cancer chemotherapy specialists, palliative medicine doctors, physicians, surgeons, pharmacists, nurses, etc. It is a model for multidisciplinary cancer treatment, where it comprehensively examines the treatment policy of individual patients.

As the last bastion of medical care in Yamagata Prefecture, our hospital introduces the most advanced medical equipment in the prefecture and provides advanced medical care. In particular, the heavy ion beam cancer treatment device, which is scheduled to start operation in FY2020, is the world's most advanced device that has achieved a high level of energy saving and space saving with the involvement of Yamagata University Faculty of Medicine from the device design stage. By achieving space saving, it is possible to connect a treatment center that had to be constructed on a land away from the hospital. It is also a major feature that it can treat patients who have difficulty moving due to complications, etc. When it is completed, it is expected to be a core heavy ion therapy center not only in Hokkaido and Tohoku districts but also in Japan. In 2019, our hospital was designated as one of the 34 cancer genomic medicine base hospitals nationwide that provides cancer genomic medicine. Cancer genomic medicine is personalized medicine that investigates genetic abnormalities in a patient's cancer and provides optimal treatment for that cancer. In the future, this hospital will promote this cancer genomic medicine and promote the establishment of a genomic medical system for diseases other than cancer.

In addition, we will utilize cutting-edge rehabilitation equipment that utilizes AI, robotics, and virtual reality to actively perform rehabilitation from the acute stage, and we have set ["ADL improving discharge" that allows you to be discharged more energetic than when you were hospitalized] as a future goal.

In conclusion the staff at Yamagata University Hospital is also enthusiastic about educating students and young medical professionals. The high level of medical care is directly linked to the provision of an excellent educational environment. We will continue to pursue "reliable medical care with rich humanity" and strive to constantly improve the Yamagata University Hospital.
