In particular:
1.Kidney cancer
・Several laparoscopic surgeries (surgery performed with an endoscope ) have been performed (21 cases in 2020).
・We perform partial nephrectomy using a surgical robot for small tumors (30 cases in 2020).
・For advanced renal cancer, we are conducting a number of treatments with molecularly targeted drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors.
2.Bladder cancer
・Endoscopic surgery, which is called TURBT (transurethral resection of bladder tumor), is performed for staging and treatment of bladder cancer (63 cases in 2020). A Photodynamic diagnostic system for bladder cancer was introduced in 2019, allowing invisible bladder cancer visible at TURBT. It is expected to decrease recurrence after the treatment.
・For advanced bladder cancer with no metastases, we perform total cystectomy (surgery to remove the entire bladder) by open surgery (4 cases in 2020) or using a surgical robot (3 cases in 2020). Various urinary diversion procedures (creating a new route for excreting urine outside the body) are possible according to the patient's condition, and we can also create a new bladder using the intestine.
・For advanced bladder cancer with local progression and/or metastases, we offer many treatments with anti-cancer drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors.
3.Prostate cancer
・MRI imaging is performed before diagnosing cancer by prostate biopsy (a test in which a needle is inserted into the prostate to collect tissue) (77 cases in 2020). MRI/ultrasound fusion biopsy system is planned to be introduced in 2020. The number of cancers missed by prostate biopsy is expected to decrease using the system.
・Radical prostatectomy is performed using a surgical robot for cancer confined to the prostate (48 cases in 2020). So far, we have performed this operation on more than 600 patients.
・For advanced prostate cancer, we utilize a multidisciplinary treatment that combines various treatments such as endocrine therapy (hormone therapy), anti-cancer chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation therapy.
4.Adrenal tumors (primary aldosteronism, Cushing's syndrome, pheochromocytoma, etc.)
・We perform laparoscopic surgery for most patients (10 cases in 2020).
5.Urinary incontinence
・Surgery for urinary incontinence (TOT or TVT surgery) is performed for female stress urinary incontinence (urine leaks due to coughing and sneezing), when conservative therapy is not effective. Recently, we started botulinum toxin injection to the bladder for patients with refractory urinary incontinence due to overactive bladder (OAB) (urinary frequency, urgency, and/or urge incontinence) or neurogenic bladder.
・We offer artificial urethral sphincter implantation for severe urinary incontinence after prostate surgery (2 cases in 2020).
6.Cystocele (a disease in which the bladder comes out of the vagina)
・We are performing treatment by transvaginal surgery (TVM surgery) using mesh (2 cases in 2020).
7.Congenital hydronephrosis
・Patients are treated with laparoscopic surgery using a surgical robot (robot-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty) (2 cases in 2020).
8.Chronic renal failure
・We offer kidney transplants for patients with chronic renal failure (8 living and 1 deceased kidney transplantations in 2020). A kidney transplant from a family member is possible regardless of whether or not hemodialysis is performed. We also conduct transplantation of donated kidneys (kidney transplants from deceased people). As of 2020, our department has performed over 100 kidney transplants.
・For those who will donate kidneys, the kidneys will be collected by laparoscopic surgery, which is less invasive, to be discharged as soon as possible.
*Our department has the facilities and staff to diagnose and treat most urological diseases.
