In particular:
1.Depression (refractory depression, mild depression, masked depression, and vascular depression) and manic depression
Depression is characterized by depressed mood, decreased motivation, insomnia, loss of appetite, etc. According to an epidemiological survey by the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, 1 in 15 people will experience depression in their lifetime. Despite growing concerns related to suicide, which has climbed to 30,000 incidences per year, statistics show that 75% of people with depression do not seek medical help. Our department is particularly focused on the diagnosis and treatment of depression. Various physical disorders, dementia and other mental disorders (schizophrenia, adjustment disorder, personality disorder, etc.) can be often easily mistaken for depression. The diagnosis combines various psychological tests to confirm the presence of depression, and in some cases, head MRI and cerebral blood flow tests, among other physical tests, are performed for differential diagnosis. The treatment we provide includes psychotherapy, hospital treatment, and drug therapy. Aside from antidepressants, our drug therapy also includes enhancement therapy in cases of poor response to antidepressants and combined use with modified electroconvulsive therapy.
2.Alzheimer's dementia, cerebrovascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and Lewy body dementia
Our Forgetfulness Clinic provides treatment for dementia associated with aging and presenile dementia (40 to 50 years old). Presenile dementia includes Alzheimer's disease and Pick's disease. Particularly in the latter, forgetfulness is not noticeable, the patient tends to be irritable and disregard hygiene, and atrophy in the brain is limited to the temporal and frontal lobes. Along with Alzheimer's disease and cerebrovascular dementia, Lewy body dementia has also been gaining attention in recent years. This dementia is associated with Parkinson's syndrome (muscle rigidity, mask-like face, finger tremors, etc.) and hallucinations (seeing insects, etc.) as symptoms of forgetfulness. These dementias are diagnosed by neuropsychological examination, head MRI examination, cerebral blood flow examination (SPECT), etc. If necessary, we can refer the patient to related hospitals or conduct drug therapy.
3.Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD, children/adults), pervasive developmental disorders (high-functioning autism, Asperger syndrome, etc.), learning disorders, and psychosomatic disorders
The child and adolescent clinic can accommodate general consultations. In particular, this clinic provides treatment for mild developmental disorders such as attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, Asperger syndrome, and high-functioning autism, which has been gaining attention in recent years. We carry out psychological tests, neuropsychological tests, and, in some cases, physical tests (electroencephalogram, head MRI, etc.). We provide advice on home support, cooperate with schools, and conduct drug therapy and psychotherapy.
*Our hospital has the facilities to diagnose and treat many diseases related to the mind and brain.
