Neurosurgery

This department provides treatment for all brain, spinal, and peripheral nerve diseases from adults to children.

 In particular:

1. Brain tumor:

Malignant brain tumors: diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment for glioma, and other malignant brain tumor. In the operation, safe and reliable removal is performed by making full use of the surgical support system such as the intraoperative MRI. We also conduct postoperative radiotherapy for malignant brain tumors and radiation therapy for metastatic brain tumors under the CTB conference.

Benign brain tumor: diagnosis and treatment for meningioma, neurilemmoma, etc. In conjunction with the diagnosis and the preoperative evaluation in cooperation with other departments, surgery with few surgical complications is performed. Re-operation or radiation therapy for recurrent lesions is also possible.

Diencephalic hypophyseal: diagnosis of pituitary tumor and craniopharyngioma, etc., and surgical treatment such as endoscopic nasal surgery. In addition, the evaluation of endocrine function and postoperative follow-up, which is important in these diseases, are firmly done with the cooperation of the endocrine medicine department.

2. Cerebrovascular disease:

Ischemic cerebrovascular disease: surgical treatment, such as bypass surgery and carotid endarterectomy, for intracranial blood vessels and cervical internal carotid artery stenosis and diagnostic treatment for Moyamoya disease.

Cerebral aneurysm: craniotomy clipping and endovascular treatment such as coil embolization. We aim for surgery without complications by careful preoperative evaluation and monitoring systems.

Arteriovenous malformation (AVM): diagnosis of cerebral AVM and surgical treatment, such as removal of nidus

These surgeries are performed safely and reliably under an angiography using "hybrid operation room", intraoperative fluorescence imaging, and intraoperative monitoring systems.

Acute stroke

Subarachnoid hemorrhage: treatment of ruptured cerebral aneurysm and dissecting cerebral aneurysm, especially clipping, endovascular treatment, etc. We perform postoperative management at HCU and conduct close monitoring and response to postoperative complications

Cerebral infarction: especially mechanical thrombectomy for hyperacute stroke, rt-PA intravenous therapy, etc. In cooperation with the local emergency system, emergency department, and the radiation department, we have established a system to perform hyperacute treatment on 24 hours a day

Cerebral hemorrhage: craniotomy, stereotactic surgery, and neuroendoscopic surgery. There is also a support system for all patients of cerebrovascular disorders, so that the rehabilitation and social support system will work.

3.Head injury:

Surgery for acute epidural, subdural, intracerebral hematoma, chronic subdural hematoma, etc. We have a solid follow-up and support system for after-treatment for higher brain function and other remained symptoms.

4. Functional and cranial nerve disease:

Diagnosis and surgical treatment of facial spasm, trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia (microvascular decompression, etc.), Parkinson's disease, other involuntary movements, intractable pain (deep brain stimulation and continuous spinal stimulation etc.), etc.

5. Congenital and childhood disease:

Spina bifida, cerebrospinal craniofacial congenital malformation, hydrocephalus, and other diseases such as infantile brain tumor, etc. We also work with pediatrics to treat and follow-up while keeping in mind the development and growth of children.

6. Spinal cord disease:

Spinal cord tumor, spinal nerve tumor, and spinal vascular diseases such as spinal dural AVF, AVM, etc. We work with orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation departments to promote treatment.

7. Headache clinic:

Diagnostic treatment for intractable headache and other neurological disorders. Treatment is carried out based on careful neurological examination and diagnostic imaging
